Miracle Drug - How Much Is Enough

Kev Rowland

After their 2015 demo was well-received this Louisville, Kentucky-based hardcore quartet went back into the studio in 2016 to record a follow-up, and the five songs have now been released as an EP by War Records owner/Strife guitarist Andrew Kline. Musically this is a mix of styles, and not one that I am sure really works. While singer Bricks Avalon is very much from the hardcore shouter style of singer, with loads of anger and angst, the music underneath is far more melodic, and with a different singer this wouldn’t even be classed as hardcore. It doesn’t contain the hardly contained aggression that one normally expects from the genre, and is far more in the hard rock arena, with hints of melodic combining with NWOBHM, certainly not hardcore.

As such it is falling between two schools, and they need to have a rethink as to what direction they really want to go in, as this isn’t nearly as powerful as it could be.
