Fanga - Nie polecam

Kev Rowland

When I come across an album from Polish label Lynx Music I generally expect it to be Prog, but here we have an album which is mixing together a great many styles which have much more in common with stoner and the likes of RHCP but brought into the current day and managing to stay melodic while also being jagged with a lot of space in the arrangements. According to Google Translate the title means ‘I Do Not Recommend” which seems more than a little harsh, as here we have a band who are taking American musical styles and providing Polish lyrics and turning them into something modern and interesting.

The core of the band is Kuba Bąk (guitar), Adam Krzuś (bass), Paweł Małagowski (drums) and Łukasz Lipowczan (vocal) plus they have two guest keyboard players in Paweł Kukla and Korneliusz Flisiak. One must admire this band as it would have been very easy for them to perform in English and appeal to a much wider audience but instead, they have stuck to their native tongue as it is important to them, yet the music is solidly American, but not the mass-produced styles but instead this is coming to us from the heart. It is interesting to hear Lynx Music pushing in different directions from what they are known for, and I certainly look forward to hearing more from Fanga.
