Patrick followed ‘The Story Of I’ just a year later with ‘Out In The Sun’, using many of the same musicians who had featured on his debut. Here Patrick moved more into the funk sound, yet all the time experimenting with the sounds that he could get from his keyboards – some of which sound commonplace now but back then took a great deal of programming. But, Patrick is also very much at home on a plain piano and on ‘Rana Batucada’ leads the band through a great percussive dance. Overall the album has even more of a Seventies feel to it than the debut, and in some ways is a little dated, but it is still fun to listen to and has a real Summer freshness to it. This is definitely not the album to purchase if you are looking for bombastic progressive rock, but it is still progressive in its’ own way as the electronic sounds interact with the percussion.
Some of the numbers are quite poppy in nature, and as I say it does feel dated, but overall is still worth investigating.
