Angel King - World Of Pain

ImageLet’s have a quick check of the calendar, yep 2012. So why is it that this album sounds like a long-lost gem from the Eighties? The band all have great names like Jack Vegas, Rock Boston, Snake Denver et al but although they sound like they have been playing the clubs with Cinderella, and possibly Great White, this is in fact a brand new band from Sweden. Yep, here is good old fashioned American melodic rock with just a hint of glam. At times they toy with Kiss and not all of the songs are quite as strong as they could be, and the lyrics are definitely dated, but overall this is plain fun. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I saw the cover and was thinking that this was going to be a female fronted band to be honest, possibly symphonic, but the actual result is something much stronger than powerful.

There are stacks of hooks and riffs, so while really doing nothing new – what they are doing they are doing very well indeed. If you miss the bands that came out of America in the Eighties (and you know you do – even if you won’t admit it), then you need this.
