Scorpion Child - Scorpion Child

ImageWhat on earth is an album like this doing in 2013? And a debut to boot? The only thing that could make this make even less sense would be if these guys were American. Okay, so we’re three for three then. It isn’t often that I hear a singer that sounds to me as if he is doing an excellent Robert Plant, and then combining that with some Paul Rodgers, but Aryn Jonathan Black does just that. Then behind him he has a band that is incredibly tight and the five of them then go off and create a sound that is a cross between Led Zep, Bad Company, classic Rainbow, with just a touch of the Faces thrown in for good measure. Intrigued? Well you should be.

This is punchy hard hitting classic Seventies hard rock complete with swagger and belief. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a press release that manages to mention bands such as Pentragram, Lucifer’s Child, Free and Humble Pie. It’s 2013 for heaven’s sake, yet these guys seem determind to push the clock back forty years, and they are doing a bloody good job of it as well. If you want emotional laid back numbers then they are here, but if you want an over the top stadium filling rock anthem then you have that as well. It is truly is a wonderful album, which somehow feels warm and inviting with the impression that these guys just want to play and have nothing to prove to anyone. There is an honesty that pervades this album, there is nothing artificial about this and take it from me this is a band that has the chops, the riffs and the attitudes to become very big indeed.
