According to google, ‘Kamala’ translates as ‘horrible’ and ‘Kamala Akka’ means ‘Horrible Bitch’. But I’m still not sure why the rather crude artwork looks like an iron, it can’t be anything to do with the fact that this is an all-female trio could it? I think these guys have heard of Girlschool and just decided that they were just not hard enough and have mixed thrash and downtuned guitars with influences like Pantera and Sepultura to create a much heavier sound altogether. The question here though is how will that transfer to an audience outside of Finland? All power to these guys, as they have recorded the whole album in their native language but will that help or hinder them?
While some Finnish bands have managed to break the international market when not singing in English, they are few and far between (stand up Finntroll) and the majority have switched (Children of Bodom, Impaled Nazarene etc). This is an okay album, but there is nothing dramatically new and as the vocals are clean enough to understand what is being sung I would much prefer to be able to understand it. Apparently they have been on the scene since 2006 but it is the first I have heard of them, and perhaps that isn’t too surprising.
