According to guitarist/singer Andy Brings (ex-Sodom), “We see ourselves in the tradition of bands like Kiss, Ramones, Skid Row, Motörhead, Mötley Crüe, without even trying to sound like them. It’s our version of Rock n´ Roll, naturally with a huge punk influence in the instrumentation, strong choruses with an undeniable pop factor, and the power to destroy a small town. One small town per song that is!” While they do have some similarities with Ramones, they certainly don’t have the same energy as them, and I just don’t understand how they can compare themselves with Motörhead at all. There are some songs on here, such as “Unfriend Me Now” which sound like power pop mixed with Green Day, while on “Gimme Everything” they come across more as a poppy version of Type O Negative.
Their music doesn’t really match up with the image they seem to want to portray, as looking at the album artwork seems to show some hard-core punks, but what we have are guys who would be happy cuddling small animals. This is bubble gum punk, but for all that, this is a good album. It certainly wasn’t what I expected, and is packed full of mini anthems that would certainly do well on the radio, and I can see why they have been so much in demand on tour in Europe with the likes of Sebastian Bach, Hardcore Superstar, Doro, J.B.O., Ohrenfeindt, W.A.S.P., Loudness as well as playing countless shows on their own.
It may not win any prizes for originality, but is something that can be played with a smile on the face of the listener. It doesn’t take any brain cells to work out what is going on here, just put it on, turn it up, pour a large dose of Jack Daniels, and enjoy.
