Laneslide - Flying High

Kev Rowland

ImageLaneslide is a new melodic rock project that has been put together by Italian songwriter/guitarist/producer Bruno Kraler (Brunorock). He has worked with vocalist Frank Vestry (Marcello/Vestry, Last Temptation), keyboard player Alessandro Del Vecchio (Hardline, Lionville, Edge of Forever), bassist John Billings (Rick Springfield, Donna Summer, Lancia) and drummer  Dominik Hülshorst (ex-Bonfire). If that wasn’t enough, there are also guests in the form of Lino Gonzalez (lead and rhythm guitars), Bobby Altvater (guitars and backing vocals) plus Erik Mårtensson and Michael Bormann on backing vocals. This is Eighties rock, with strong influences from Whitesnake and Glenn Hughes, and it has to be said that this is an enjoyable romp through the past.

Does it do anything dramatically new? Well, the answer to that has to be a resounding “no’ as even the keyboard sounds are quite dated, and the lyrics aren’t exactly thought provoking with “dancing Girls” being a case in point. But, there are times when this is the sort of music that hits the sweet spot and if you want music to make you smile where it can just wash over you then this is it. Frank has a great voice, and he provides an additional element of class that makes this just a little bit special.
