Nailed Coil - The Outcome Of Anxiety

Nailed Coil is a Finnish metalcore outfit that came together in 2002, and this is their second full-length release. It’s a little surprising that these guys aren’t more well known as there are some huge chunks of Meshuggah going on here, and they have really nailed the combination riff and drum attack. It is packed full of aggression and they aren’t afraid to move into clean vocals and a different approach when they want to. To my ears this definitely adds to what is going on as they add some very light touches to the melody line while never taking away from the overall heaviness. While the guitars are at full throttle it ss the drums that really drive this band forward and take them above the norm with some great double bass drum work and strong fills. There are also hints of Machine Head in what they do and the result is an album that should have made a much larger impression than it did when it was released a year ago. It may not be 100% essential but it is definitely worth searching out and I look forward to what these guys do in future as if they build on this there could be one helluva album to come out of Finland.
