Immolation have been hard at work for some twenty-five years now, and have long since perfected their approach to death metal, so much so that just by seeing the name on the album cover one knows what the album is going to be like. There is no reason at all for them to break new ground when there is still plenty of life in this scene for them, and when they are at full speed there are few who can live with them to be honest. Ross Dolan is one of the best growlers in the business, although his bass isn’t as heard as much as one may like, just because it is overpowered by the guitars of Robert Vigna and Bill Taylor, while Steve Shalaty again shows why he is one of the most rated drummers in the business with a performance on this album that is nothing short of awesome.
This album is all about power and a group of musicians who can only get this tight from playing together for years and hitting the road at every opportunity (currently they are touring the States with Cannibal Corpse and Napalm Death, what a show!). As with their last album, they have used producer Paul Orofino with the final sound being mixed and mastered by Zack Ohren and the result of the band with these guys is something that is both powerful and precise. If you like death metal, then you need this. ‘Nuff said.
