Summer with 'Alchemy': An Interview with Kylan Amos
1. How did your adventure with 'Alchemy' start?
Kylan: I got involved with Clive through Scott. I've been working with Scott in other projects for a number of years now, then about three years ago Clive was looking for a bassist to do the live shows for his latest musical 'She'. Which is where I came in. I did the 'She' shows in Holland and Cheltenham which were great fun, and while out in Holland, Clive asked me to do the 'Alchemy' project for him. So here we are today with a CD, DVD and first 'Alchemy' show under the belt, and getting ready to do Cheltenham in September and whatever else comes our way!
2. How did your work routine look like while recording the album and preparing for the Katowice concert?
Kylan: The recording of 'Alchemy' from my part was quite simple, Clive sent me the demo versions three weeks before going into his studio, then plug in and record! The rehearsals before the show all went very well, 4 long days but well worth it. Everyone was very professional, all new their parts, so it was enjoyable to be involved with! A truly pleasant atmosphere all round!
3. Do you expect the theatre version of 'Alchemy' in Cheltenham to be more difficult than the Katowice show?
Kylan: The Katowice performance was a concert version of the show so a smaller production, where as the Cheltenham run in September will be the full musical version with much more production on stage, lots more involved in the acting performance so from that side yes, more to do for a bigger show! Very much looking forward to it, and excited to see how it will all come together and see the Musical come to life!
4. Do you think 'Alchemy' will affect your future career and did your past musical experience help in the 'Alchemy' project?
Kylan: Yes, I think it will affect my musical career, small or big time is yet to be seen. For me it was the correct decision to get involved in this project. I've met many wonderful and talented people while working for Clive, some great experiences along the way, and hopefully many more! For the second part of your question, I've been playing music for twenty years now doing many different types of shows, big and small acts, large and tiny venues, and they all contribute to my experience as a musician and what I go on to do next. Whether good or bad experiences, they have all helped me in one way or another prepare for this and future projects in a positive way.
5. Was it your first visit to Poland and how will you remember it?
Kylan: Yes, this was my first trip to Poland! It was a positive experience all round! The people were warm and friendly from the hotel, the venue and the fans! The show was a success! Though it was a little cold outside!!! Overall it was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to going back hopefully soon!
