Freddy is best known for being the keyboard player in historical cult band Death SS, the singer of the hard rock band H.A.R.E.M. as well as being a producer and sound engineer. This album mostly dates back to 1992, with three songs added and the whole thing then remastered and reissued last year. This is very much a solo effort, so of course that means a drum machine, which doesn’t belong in any recordings as far as I am concerned, so we are already off to a bad start. Musically Freddy has obviously been heavily influenced by Rick Wakeman as opposed to more dreamy material such as Jean Michel Jarre. This certainly makes the album much more in your face and hard hitting than otherwise, and he even brings in some Hawkwind-style space effects when he feels the need.
But, sometimes the gimmicks get just a little too much and actually detracts from the main thrust of the music. Also, some of the keyboard sounds that he utilises would have seemed a bit dated in 1992 (too Eighties), let alone now, which means that some of the songs just haven’t dated very well. The end result is an album that contains some interesting pieces and some good playing but not enough to make it essential.
