Midnight Moodswings - The Dopamine Recursive EP

Kev Rowland

ImageMidnight Moodswings, in collaboration with Belgian producer Seiswork, have released what they ae calling an EP, but in fact it contains nine numbers and is more than 33 minutes in length so it is much more like an album than an EP. The band describe this as  “imaginary people telling imaginary stories to imaginary listeners,” and they have achieved this by producing largely ambient soundscapes, which at times contain some interesting trumpetwork, while others have an edgy almost dance feel to them. I am really torn over this EP, as I have found that my feelings towards it are definitely affected by the time of day and my mood when I listen to it. If I play it during the day when I am doing other things then I can almost dismiss it out of hand, but if I listen to it at night and really allow myself to flow into the mindset of the artists then I have a totally different reaction to it and find myself wondering why I can be so negative about it during the day.

So, if you want something to listen to at night and set yourself into a totally different frame of mind then give this a try, but in the light of day you may think of it quite differently.
