One of the delights of being sent CDs from other countries is that it is possible to uncover real gems, but one of the major issues is being able to uncover information, especially when the booklet is in another language. Artur kindly sent me this, but I don’t think that it is a new CD, but rather believe that it was originally released in 2008. It contains a collection of live songs that were recorded at the regional and cultural centre of Andalusia in Poland. Apart from one which is from 2006, all the rest are from 2007. What really makes this album quite unusual though is that there is a wide range of styles displayed here and I don’t think that there are many who will really enjoy everything that is featured. Lester Kidson has a beautifully fluid style, and his jazz blues has made me want to discover more about this Canadian based guitarist, while a live recording of TU Band (Pat Masteloot and Trey Gunn) will always find favour with fans of King Crimson. But Funk De Nite are as bad as their name suggests, Seventies funk with none of the saving graces. So, an interesting collection to be sure, but it was one that I had to force myself through to the end and while it certainly contains nuggets there aren’t enough here for me to want to revisit it in a hurry.
