Vescera may well be a new band on the scene, but this is the new vehicle for singer Michael Vescera, who has previously been involved with Obsession, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Loudness among others. To have this as a proper band, and not just a project, he has enlisted the assistance of Mike Petrone (guitar), and Frank Leone (bass) (both from Nitehawks) and Fabio Alessandrini on drums (Annihilator). The result is an album that is immediate, vibrant, full of balls, and just plain fun! There has never been any doubt that Michael is a great singer, but although his name is out front this isn’t a singer with a backing band, this is the real deal. It is melodic, it is heavy, incredibly well produced and one that is accessible from the first note to the last.
If I was going to point to just one band as an influence then it would have to be classic Dokken, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that I hear you say! Add to that some bits and pieces of Helloween and Annihilator and here is a band whose debut is rocking, powerful, and a real blast. It is the sort of metal album when the listener wants to play it all the way through, with a smile on their face, and then put it on again when it finishes. Yes, it has a real Eighties feel to it, but not all the music from back then was awful. This is definitely one to keep an eye out for.
