Jeremy Band, The - All Over The World

Kev Rowland

When Jeremy isn’t off recording progressive or Christian albums as a solo artist, he is performing his own version of power pop with his band in many different parts of the world, and this album (containing songs recorded over a ten-year period) shows them doing just that. The songs themselves are taken not only from his solo works but also various projects, and his band also includes people he has worked with in different forms, iincluding Dave Dietrich on drums, Todd Borsch (The Ringles, The Gillegans, The Lemon Clocks) on guitar, bass and vocals, Bart Mendoza (The Shambles, True Stories) on guitar and vocals, Peter Morris on guitar and bass, and of course Jeremy on guitar and vocals. This is all about power pop, or poppy rock, or incredibly melodic rock with heavy pop influences, or whatever you want to call it, but actually, this is all about some good musicians providing a great backdrop to thrown harmony vocals against and have a lot of fun.

The song that probably best exemplifies this is “Pop Rules”, which includes licks from thirteen different classics (which are listed in the booklet) and I must confess to missing Steve Hillage’s “The Salmon Song”, but I did pick up all the rest I already knew, such as Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Beatles and Sabbath. The booklet contains a small explanation of every song, where it was recorded, where it originally appeared, and a story to go with it. There are very few who seem to know exactly what they want to do in music as Jeremy Morris, and as he wants to do just about everything he goes out and achieves just that. This is an album that would be at home in the music scene some forty years ago, and anyone who references The Pretty Things should be taken seriously. Fifty plus albums in, and Jeremy shows no sign at all of slowing down. Yet another great album, and to find out the details of this and lots of others then visit http://www.jamrecordings.com
