Nicumo is a melodic rock/metal band from Ylivieska, Finland who first came together in 2007, although the line-up changed frequently until 2010. It was in the same year that they settled on the name Nicumo and since then have self-released two EPs. ‘The End Of Silence’ is their debut album, with the line-up now settled with Tapio Anttiroiko (guitars and backing vocals), Atte Jääskelä (guitars), Hannu Karppinen (lead vocals), Sami Kotila (bass) and Aki Pusa (drums): only Atte has been there since the beginning. The word that keeps coming to mind with this album is “Atmosphere”, as the band moves different styles but bringing it all together with a darkness and melancholia that is incredibly impressive.
Imagine Sentenced joining forces with Katatonia and you may just get close to what these guys are all about. The guitarwork is extremely powerful, and while the gruff vocals may not always work as well as the ‘clean’ ones they do in themselves add an extra facet to the sound. All in all this is something that definitely grows on the listener and is worth checking out.
