Red Eleven - Idiot Factory

ImageAccording to the press release, “Jyväskylä-based rock/alternative/metal band Red Eleven was formed in early 2012 and drives its influences by bands like Down, Alice In Chains and Faith No More to name a few. Featuring members from acts such as Sons of Aeon, Dark Days Ahead, Dead Cult Diaries, Turta and Code For Silence, Red Eleven combines groovy metallic rock to melodies with their own unique style. So ladies and gentlemen, get ready for some serious ear candy!” So it appears that this should be a stunning album then, right? Okay, no prizes for guessing that I am not exactly in agreement with the label on this one. The vocals often get drowned in the mix but that is something of a blessing, as they just aren’t strong enough.

The band obviously has loads of ideas but isn’t able to carry any of them all of the way through so the result is something where if I was a teacher I would write a report saying “tries hard, but needs to concentrate and work on one objective at a time”. The snare drum is way too high in the overall mix and is a distraction, while the changing styles is actually confusing as opposed to interesting. This is not a shockingly bad album by any stretch of the imagination, but I did find myself checking to see how many songs were left the first time I played it as I was hoping that the one I was playing was the last one. Not something I will be hurrying back to in the future.
