Buenos Agres - Buenos Agres EP

ImageBuenos Agres is a Polish band from Bielsko-Biala, and this is their debut five track EP which was released in 2012. They describe their music as an intriguing and not obvious mix of influences of such artists as Portishead, Archive, Deftones and NoSound. There is a “post-rock atmosphere combined with a heavy sound, electronics and whole thing music is dominated by sometimes soothing, sometimes very strong vocals of Anna Mysłajek.” Musically to my ears this is all over the place, and while Anna is very much the heart of the band with powerful vocals (sometimes in English and sometimes Polish) there needs to be more control in what they are trying to achieve. This reminds me of some of the bands that were coming out in the post punk era where there were no rules and bands could be all over the place musically. That is the case here with the band going through so many different styles that few people are going to enjoy all of it. I believe that I have one of the most eclectic tastes around, but even I’m not a fan of a band mixing and melding quite so much.

Buenos Agres need to work out their own musical path, but currently they seem a little confused and try to go in too many directions at once which actually means that they are not likely to travel far at all. I believe that they have a future in either Skunk Anansie-style metal or the very atmospheric where Anna’s vocals are particularly haunting, but not at the same time.
