Dead End Finland - Season Of Withering

Kev Rowland

ImageThis is the second album from Dead End Finland, following on from ‘Stain of Disgrace’, and is an extremely solid piece of work. This four piece have managed to bring together symphonic with elements of melodic death to crate something that is heavier with more balls and guttural vocals normally expected in the former, and more soaring vocals and use of keyboards and melody than would often be expected in the latter. The result is something that is extremely catchy, and almost commercial, while also not bowing down to any expectations of them. Vocals can be rough and raw, or full on harmonies, it is whatever is required at the time The keyboards can also be in the background or taking on a lead melody role, depending on the mood.

Overall it is an incredibly polished album, packed full of hooks and ideas, while losing none of the majestic heaviness. They have a presence that at times is reminiscent of Amorphis, while at others it is Rammstein all the way, but what is important is that here is a band that wants to make music on it’s own merits and the result is something that is very much larger than life. This is something that fans of all types of metal ought to seek out, as there really is something in here for everyone and is well worth hearing.
