Roadfever - Wolf Pack

Kev Rowland

ImageThis is the second album by Swiss female-fronted power metal outfit Roadfever who have more than a passing similarity to Heart in many ways. But, the major difference is that Heart really know how to write great songs while Roadfever have good bits. Let’s take the title cut which unfortunately opens the album (it took a lot of effort for me not to skip the album altogether during that song). The chorus is “We’re a wolf pack – desert wolves”. I know that, as they sing it 17 times during a song that is under five minutes long. I actually played it again just so that I could count it – take it from me it seems way more than that when you’re listening to it. The really frustrating thing about this album is that there is no doubt that they are all good musicians, and that Stevie “Manou” Pike has a wonderful voice, and that parts of the songs, and indeed some of the songs, are well worth hearing. But, there are times when playing this that I start to wonder how long until I can turn it off and play something else instead.

Given what I can hear I am sure that they are a cracking live act and well worth catching in concert where the lack of song quality won’t be so noticeable, but when it comes to this album I’ll give it a miss, sorry.
