Goresoerd - Asulum

ImageThis band started out in 2004 as just two guys playing and experimenting with grindcore, but they have since evolved into being one of the most important bands playing extreme music in the Estonian scene. This is their third album, and as with the others the lyrics are in their native tongue which adds an additional element as often the vocals actually be heard and understood (not always the case with grind/extreme music) but even though one can hear what they are saying it’s still not possible to understand them! What impressed me throughout this album is the sheer tightness of the band, and they combine that with a complexity of music that is often missing from this style of music. There is actually a lot going on, it is just that it is then combined together to create something that is extremely brutal and over the top. There are some simple guitar lines over the top of the main push that really takes this to a quite different level.

The label describes them as having influences varying from mainstream rock to crust hardcore, but there is so much going on here that this only touches on what they are about. Heavy, intense, fast, powerful, this is some album.
