Formed in 2011, British band Metropolis started their career with the release of an EP “Just Killing Time.” The band has been touring since 2012 and their live performances were first documented on a semi bootleg CD “Life at the Hope and Anchor.” Metropolis consists of 5 members: Chris Longman (known from Clive Nolan’s musical “Alchemy”) on vocals and keyboards, White on guitars, Pete Alexander on bass, Dan Alexander on drums and Johny Boreham on keyboards. Earlier this year the band finally released their debut album “Out of Mind”.
The album is a professional and quite an interesting mixture of rock sounds with a slightly darker vibe. It is full of interesting keyboard parts, very tasteful rhythm section, raw guitar solos and more than decent vocal parts. It can be considered a continuation of the once-so-popular New Wave. The band seems to be cultivating old school traditions on more than just musical level -they grouped the songs into an arbitrary side A and B. The 52-minute-long ''Out of Mind" consists of 13 songs that vary in tempo and mood – fast energetic songs are intertwined with more delicate and quieter ballads. Additionally, the album is complemented by new mixes of “My Metropolis” and “All the Machines”, originally released on the EP.
“Out of Mind” is a must for every fan of ambitious, alternative music. It is certainly a better and more interesting album than any I have come to listen to recently. It features good arrangements, which combined with strong psychedelic mantras, linger in your mind and make you hum the choruses long after the music has stopped. It is always a good sign.
