Emmens, Gert - Waves Of Dreams

Mariusz Wójcik

Image"Waves of Dreams" is an important music in the large collection of solo albums from Dutch el-composer Gert Emmens. Composer himself says, that he is most pleased with this production and in my case, it is definitely one of my favourites album of Gert Emmens. Great help in understanding of the music, ‘cause that exceeds the limits of the classical variety of electronic music is a friend Gert, Pablo Magne, who is responsible for giving a lot to think of the cover.

As usual, the cooperation of these two artists even telepathically gives us clues as to where this art, I must admit a little surreal art design goes. The very beautiful and quite surreal cover gives food for thought, the boy standing on the water is the son of Gert Emmens - Frank. “Waves of Dreams” is a work that goes beyond the stereotypical conventions of so-called "Berlin schule."

Throughout the album overflows Gert strange, futuristic vision of a world engulfed in the search... heaven on earth, but as suggest intriguing titles on the album cover and inside where Pablo Magne in his image let us know that life is not a fairy tale, but the gray reality - environmental degradation, factories polluting our beautiful planet, and so on… Melancholy alternates with nostalgia and romance. "After The Rain" is how Dutch magician multichannel song of el- music. Whoever loves Kitaro, Klaus Schulze, Jean Michel Jarre and Tangerine Dream, may be delighted and enchanted by the music. I can hear even the wonderful characteristic time for the famous Mike Oldfield’s “Tubular Bells!”

Such detail, but how inspiring this very lovely mini suite I also recommend ... Pablo Magne intriguing video to the track. It is a shame that these sadly and stunning images will not complete the original song "After The Rain", but I hope that Pablo will implement the second part, which will complete all timeless in its striking image, concepts of that work.

The next step is el musical "Another Time, Another Space" - I must admit my beloved part of this album but not number one but more on that later. It amazes me here peculiar symbiosis of two worlds - images Pablo Magne and Emmens’ music . When I can hear these wonderful ostinato sequence I feel just like Frank Emmens standing on the water... Beautiful sound of theremin topped with delicate synths Gert party reminds me of solos  of Tony Banks from Genesis group (album “Wind and Wuthering”) Title track is also not uncommon wonderful similar to what is currently the world's musicians composers... Gert thanks to Frank, added his vocals and it sounds lofty. For me is a kind of synthetic assault on my senses. Bombast and classic sequencer is playing for me the proof that a musician from the Netherlands to create a new, quality el-music. This quality is of course supported by classical solutions so-called "Berlin School", but feels there is a spell of unfettered imagination - feel the spirit of progressive rock here, is something that opens the door to a new mystical and yet beautiful world created by the man endowed with an extraordinary sense.

"Dawn" is already playing a more sunny how typical Gert music, full of warmth and pastel colors analog music Gert enters the world in a more positive artistic creations.

It is also an intriguing piece of "Heading towards, unknown destination" whenever I listen to amaze me rather unusual use of partly powerful drums. But going through the "Bright Spot on a Grey"- this is for me one of the most ambitious of all the compositions of music…  it's 13 minutes and 7 seconds of spiritualized great and dramatic music full of passion and a singular element that contains the mysterious aura that from the very beginning is palpable. You have to listen to this work in its entirety and focus it in order to see some inexplicable and full of puzzles conceptual dimension this work, which I can not really put into words in a clear and obvious.

The very ending is quite puzzling, because at the end of the song ends in the darkness, but it turns out that after a few seconds starts to seep out of the speakers on the dark, Gert ambient music is slowly disappearing after a while, giving us something to think about some unfinished vision? Back to the song unusual drama. The music charged with increasing sequential batch of pathos and even stun hollow my soul synth master batches from Emmens. Something incredibly inspired in the classic solution here in this compostion. This is great progressive rock classics from the rising tension and climax, here in the form of a powerful sequence of even hitting straight into my bowels. overwhelming and very intellectual in his thought. If I write that the magnum opus of this masterpiece to write it with all my heart - it is a moment of total satisfaction!
