Formed in 2011, Necrot features current and past members of Acephalix, Vastum, Saviours, Watch Them Die, and Atrament. Last year saw them release ‘The Labyrinth’, which were taken from three hard-to-find and long out-of-print demo tapes, and now they are back with a ‘proper’ debut album which is being released on CD, LP, and digitally via Tankcrimes and on cassette in partnership with Sentient Ruin Laboratories, with a cover from Marald Van Haasteren (Bolt Thrower, Baroness). For me, this is all about going back to the early days of the Death Metal genre, with artwork, name and logo all reminiscent of the mighty Death, and music that refuses to be anything but solid straight down the middle Death Metal. They are obviously highly influenced by Autopsy, Bolt Thrower, Master and Sacrilege and can that ever be a bad thing?
What we have here are eight songs, at a fraction of under forty minutes in total length, and a refusal to compromise. Praise should be heaped on Greg Wilkinson who recorded this at Earhammer (Vastum, Graves At Sea), and Brad Boatright, who mastered it at Audiosiege (Nails, Gatecreeper), as they have managed to create a monster that isn’t over produced yet everything is perfectly clear and defined, allowing the listener to play it at the volume it deserves. If you have ever been interested in this genre, then this album is simply essential, nothing more and nothing less.
