Tricky Lobsters have built quite a reputation over the years, from noise to punk rock in the early years, from rock'n'roll to the gnarly sludge blues rock on their prior album, ‘The Blue Hospital Conspiracy’, their body of work includes pretty much everything with a noisy edge. After nearly four years in the wilderness, the Baltic Sea-based band continues their travels in a kind of western-driven, grand finale and face off in an epic clash of stories, riffs and drama on ‘Worlds Collide’. Engineered and produced by drummer Jörg Peters at Blue Hospital in Rostock in 2017, the three northerners follow diverse paths through rock history and bind them together on their sixth official release to date. Now in their twenty-first year of existence, Tricky Lobsters have produced an album that is taking earthy roots raucous rock ‘n’ roll to new levels.
I am sure that they must have come face to face with Lemmy at some point in their career, as I am sure that he would have loved their approach to music. This has some doom elements, but with a bass often being used as a rhythm guitar, and a ferocious approach to the sound, these guys have been influenced by the mighty Motörhead. It is hard not to like this album, as there are just so many positives, from the distorted fuzzed out bass through the strong vocals and sense of honesty in everything they are doing.
I do find it strange that it has taken me so long to come across them given the quality of this album, but I am sure that this isn’t the last I’ve heard of them. Solid, in your face, honest rock ‘n’ roll. One can’t wish for much more than that.
