Diversion Voice - Underwater

Kev Rowland

ImageDo not adjust your set, the album cover is in 3-D which means that without the glasses it does look a little strange, a bit like the music contained within. This is the debut album from Russian jazz/psychedelic/prog group Diversion Voice, and an interesting listen it is as well. Comprising  Matvey Ushakov (guitar), Ilya Bolkisev (saxophone, electronics), Dmitry Krasov (guitar, percussion), Ivan Dorokhov (bass) and Alexey Kryuchkov (drums) these guys are really mixing it up. Just when the listener feels that they have a handle on what is going on they move in a different direction so that there is always a great deal to take in. At times they are a dance act, at others they are pure jazz, at time dark and others light. The music can be lighthearted or extremely deep as they bring in Floyd, Canterbury scene, Porcupine Tree, Ozrics and a whole host of others to create a sound that is beguiling and invigorating all at the same time.

Intrigued? Well, the best bit about this is that you can now get this album for free, gratis. The guys have made it available as a free download so why not visit their site (thankfully it is available in English), have a look around, and then get a copy for yourself? If you enjoy jazz prog with hints of the above mentioned bands then you need this. While you’re there you can also enter the remix contest..
