Signs Of The Swarm - The Disfigurement Of Existence

Kev Rowland

Signs Of The Swarm is a five-piece death metal outfit hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. With the release of their debut album ‘Senseless Order’ last year, they began gaining national attention. They were originally more of a deathcore outfit than true death metal, but with this release they have upped the brutality to create something that is quite monstrous. Although it is only a year since their debut, the band have already had to change drummer and one of the guitarists, and it is the new recruits who have assisted in pushing them into this direction. Singer CJ McCreery stated that he really had to step up his game to enable him to keep up with what was happening with the music, and if ever Cannibal Corpse need to find a replacement for George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher then they need look no further than CJ, who sounds as if he is swallowing his lungs for the cause of entertainment.

They’re not always directly in your face, and sometimes the guitars slow it down, although drummer Jimmy Pino doesn’t know the meaning of the world and keeps flailing as if he is the bastard offspring of Keith Moon and an octopus. There is time for everyone to show off their talents, and this brings space and respite into the attack, as the band really show that they understand that to really pummel the listener it is necessary to have some light so that the dark can be really dark. This is a punishing album, yet another stunning release from Unique Leader, who continue to uncover great bands in the underground.
