Knifeworld, The Fierce And The Dead and Trojan Horse are touring together at the end of October/beginning of November in the UK and to celebrate they have put together this EP which is available as a free download. They may all be on the cutting edge o the UK prog scene but these guys are all very different indeed. Knifeworld is the only band that I had previously come across as they contain guitarist Kavus Torabi (Cardiacs). It is great to see that they are keeping the spirit of pronk alive as they mix Chumbawamba into their sound and create something that refuses to conform to recognised norms yet is incredibly accessible and just great fun, albeit in a rather strange way. The Fierce and the Dead started off as a studio project by Matt Stevens but it has taken on a life of it’s own and their instrumental “666...6” with fuzzed instruments and repeated riffs is simple yet clever and just cries out for the shaking loose of dandruff. Trojan Horse are quite different, with angular music that one feels will cut the listener, as if XTC are being taken to a new level as they bring in elements of PEH.
So, three very different bands, yet all with a lot to offer – a real breath of fresh air for the prog scene and given the price what are you waiting for? Download the EP, see them in concert and give them your support.
